SUMMARY:Grief 2 — free online event
DESCRIPTION:‘For what is evil but good tortured by its own hunger and thirst?’\nKahlil Gibran\nThis is a free online event for you to participate, not just listen and watch, where we can turn towards the art of grieving together.\nWithout wholehearted grieving, we perpetuate our pain. We pass it on, which we can see happening in so many places in the world. It’s not just in the Middle East, the Congo, and Ukraine, but everywhere in our social media — fingers point at others, and we throw curses in the form of words, bullets and bombs.\nThis event is free to join; we ask that you donate money to a charity of your choice afterwards, as a gesture of goodwill and gratitude.\nTo grieve is to love. Not just as a feeling but as a devotional action, whether that’s lighting a candle, crying out to the night sky, or learning to dance again.\nLiving on earth, we cannot avoid grief — friends and family die, dreams wither, relationships break up, we grow old and lose abilities we took for granted. And now, we’re faced with a rising tide of agonising news from around the world as the impact of our global ‘civilisation’ grows more and more evident, with ecosystems collapsing, extinctions mounting, and wars raging over expiring resources.\nWhen our loving becomes painful like this, we have a choice — to shut down our loving or to open to the pain.\n‘Grief is itself medicine.’  \nWilliam Cowper\nThis online session is a question, asking how we can choose to open towards our loving even when it hurts. How can we draw closer to each other as we grieve, rather than hiding away in shame or in fear of our vulnerability?\nThe pain of love needs release, or it becomes toxic. The fear of loss and pain, the anger, blame and fury we naturally feel, the sorrow that seems bottomless…. all of that needs to be allowed to flow through us and let go of, or it will metastasise into a shadowy, arid rigidity and violence that serves no-one.\nAdam will introduce the session, sharing a little from his own experience of practice, failure and grace. Then we will have some time to enter into the grieving space together using movement, voice and meditation.\nAfterwards, for those who wish, there will be some time to speak together and share stories, heartbreaks and longings. There will be a call to generous creative action in the world, right from our grieving, in whatever way you are called to do.\nOnline, Sunday 21st January, 5 – 6.30 pm UK time, 6 – 7.30 pm CET, 9 – 10.30 am PT\n
